GENERAL INFORMATION for Prospective and Current Students

   TYPE OF TRAINING OFFERED:

  • New Driver Program: We provide the program required by the State of Ohio, which includes 24 hours of classroom instruction and 8 hours of Behind-the-Wheel Training.  All of our BTW instructors are current or retired police officers or firefighters trained in emergency vehicle operation. Our primary classroom instructor is a certified teacher with advanced training in commercial vehicles.  Within the 8 hours of BTW required by the State, we incorporate additional training not required by the State and not offered by other driving schools in this area:  Off-road recovery, braking exercises, and evasive maneuvering.

   RULES FOR MINORS (under 18):

  • TOTAL COST - $460.00 (Sales tax is not applicable)
    • Pre-registration is required to hold spot in session; upon receipt of $60.00 and registration form, place in session is held.  This can be paid by cash, check or credit (Mastercard, Visa, Discover).
    • Remaining balance is due on day of first class.
  • SESSIONS:  Currently offered are the 2-week session which is four weekdays, 7:00 -9:00 p.m. and each Sat, 10:00 a.m .- 2:15 p.m. (Sat classes have a 15 min. break in-between). The 3-week afternoon session run Monday-Thursday 4:30p.m. - 6:30 p.m. The 3-week evening session run Monday-Thursday 7:00-9:00 p.m. Summer a.m. classes are also offered. Classes missed in student’s initial session can be made up in a future session up through the six-month expiration date.
  • BTW:  Training provided in four, 2-hour lessons. BTW must also be completed by the six-month expiration date. The same instructor provides all four lessons barring extenuating circumstances on the part of the student or instructor.  All behind-the-wheel training is one-on-one.
All BTW training begins at and ends at PDS office. Instructors can agree to other terms individually, but this is never guaranteed.
  • WHEN BTW BEGINS:  As an ESTIMATE ONLY, BTW typically begins the week after student’s initial classroom session ends.  Exact timing cannot be provided because BTW is very individualized between the BTW instructor and the student/family. BTW lessons are schedule one per week.  Eligibility: Student is eligible for BTW after completing 4 classes, showing they hold a valid temporary permit and the student’s account is paid-in-full.  At that point, an instructor is assigned to the student; the instructor has up to seven days to contact the student to set up a schedule for BTW.  The instructor gives each student a direct contact number to reach the instructor for any BTW related questions and concerns.
  • FINAL REGISTRATION:  Student must be accompanied by at least one parent/legal guardian, before class start date, to complete final registration requirements; final payment is also taken at this time.
  • SIX MONTH DEADLINE:  State rule.  Entire 32- hour program must be completed within six months of first class taken. If not completed within this deadline, entire state-mandated program must be repurchased and taken over.
  • COMBINING SCHOOLS NOT ALLOWED:  State rule.  Students cannot begin at one school and finish at another. Entire program must be completed at one state-licensed school.
  • CERTIFICATE:  State rule.  Upon completion of program, a State of Ohio-Department of Public Safety certificate is issued to the student within 10 days of completion of the program.  This certificate MUST be presented to the OHIO BMV exam station to be able to take the driver’s exam.  If certificate is lost or destroyed, an affidavit must be completed by the student or parent and submitted to the driving school. A replacement will be issued at a charge of $10.  Do not schedule your exam until you receive your certificate.
